Line closure Stansstad–Engelberg 7.9.–1.11.2026.
Construction and maintenance01.06.2026André Mérioz
From 7 September to 1 November 2026, rail traffic on the section Stansstad–Engelberg, or Dallenwil–Engelberg on the Lucerne–Engelberg line, will be suspended. During this period, various construction works will be carried out, including the construction of the Staldifeld double-track section. This is a key prerequisite for the introduction of a half-hourly service on the Lucerne–Engelberg express line from 2027.
Closed line sections
The line between Stansstad and Engelberg will be closed from 7 September to 18 October, and from 19 October to 1 November the section between Dallenwil and Engelberg will be closed. During these periods, IR LEX, S4 and S44 services will be cancelled between Stansstad or Dallenwil and Engelberg.
During the closures, rail replacement buses will operate on the affected sections. Please allow extra travel time. To ensure connections, some departure times and departure locations will be changed. Customer service staff will be available in Lucerne, Stansstad, Stans and Engelberg to assist passengers on site. Please check the online timetable on SBB.ch or in the SBB Mobile app before travelling. The online timetable has been updated accordingly.

Notice on transport capacity and Globi-Express
During the first construction phase from 7 September to 18 October, replacement buses will operate between Stansstad and Engelberg/Stans. As the buses have limited capacity, the number of passengers on the IR LEX trains will also be restricted (departures at XX:10 from Lucerne and XX:38 from Stansstad). A maximum of 300 passengers can be transported per train.
Please note that waiting times may occur in Lucerne and Stansstad. Boarding the IR LEX trains cannot be guaranteed.
On weekends and during holiday periods, we recommend using the S4 trains instead of the IR LEX connections (departures at XX:27 from Lucerne and XX:14 from Stansstad).
During this first phase, the Globi carriage will be removed from the train composition for refurbishment. No replacement service will be available.
Please check the online timetable before every journey.
