Four lakes, one experience – panoramic hiking at its best

The Four Lakes Hike takes about 4.5 hours and leads you from Melchsee-Frutt to Engelberg – or the other way around. Along the way, you’ll pass the sparkling Melchsee, Tannensee, Engstlensee and Trübsee, all set amidst impressive alpine scenery. The well-maintained trail leads through lush meadows and rugged rock formations, with colourful wildflowers lining the path. Cozy mountain huts invite you to rest and refuel. A stop at the deep blue Engstlensee is especially rewarding – the perfect spot for a break.

Important information

Thanks to great connections with Zentralbahn, you can travel via Lucerne to Sarnen and take the postbus to Stöckalp. From there, a gondola ride brings you to Melchsee-Frutt. The return from Engelberg is just as comfortable – a direct train ride with stunning views. You can make the hike in both directions.
