Initial situation

Aim of the construction project

  • Cleaning and restoration of the infrastructure
  • Replacement and repair of the surrounding supporting structures and embankments
  • Restoration of safe rail services between Meiringen and Interlaken Ost

Construction timeline

The Meiringen–Interlaken Ost line is expected to reopen on 25 November 2024. Construction works are progressing according to plan and remain within the scheduled timeframe. We will continue to provide updates on any new developments.

Restrictions and inconvenience

Zentralbahn makes every effort to ensure smooth operations and to keep noise emissions to a minimum. However, due to the construction works, certain restrictions and inconvenience are unavoidable.

Construction noise

From 28 October to 24 November 2024

From Monday to Friday (7.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.), and if required also on Saturdays, noise-intensive works are to be expected.

Notice regarding night-time works from 28 October 2024

As part of the optimisation of the construction schedule, night-time works will commence from 28 October 2024, from Monday/Tuesday to Friday/Saturday. Wherever possible, noisy works during the night will be avoided.

Rail traffic disruptions

Due to the destruction of the railway track, rail services between Meiringen and Interlaken have been suspended. Replacement bus services have been introduced. All relevant information can be found on the “Operating status” page.

Road traffic disruptions

Access to adjacent properties will be maintained; however, some disruptions are to be expected. Where necessary, diversion routes will be signposted. The construction sites will be secured by the construction companies. For your own safety, we kindly ask you to respect the barriers in place.

Construction traffic will lead to increased traffic volumes and may result in short waiting times. Where necessary, for example in the area of Brienz station, traffic control services will be deployed. We thank you for your understanding.
