Initial situation
Niederrickenbach Station currently does not comply with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act. The existing platform is too low, resulting in a height difference between the platform edge and the train entrance for passengers with reduced mobility.
Aim of the construction project
- Barrier-free access to the stop
- Long-term preservation of the infrastructure
- Refurbishment of the pedestrian underpass

Restrictions and inconvenience
Zentralbahn makes every effort to ensure smooth operations for all passengers. However, due to the construction works, certain restrictions and inconvenience are unavoidable.
Impact on rail services
Niederrickenbach Station out of service
To implement the construction project, Niederrickenbach Station will be out of service (no train stops) from 14 October to 14 December 2024. Passengers are asked to use the nearby Dallenwil station during this period. From Dallenwil station, the valley station of the Dallenwil–Niederrickenbach cable car can be reached on foot in around 8 minutes (approx. 700 metres).
Replacement bus services between Dallenwil and Engelberg
Some works will be carried out during the night. Therefore, on the following evenings, trains between Dallenwil and Engelberg will be replaced by buses:
Sun/Mon, 6/7 October 2024 to Thu/Fri, 12/13 December 2024, from 10.30 p.m. to 4.30 a.m.
Replacement bus services between Hergiswil and Engelberg
The closure of Niederrickenbach Station is being coordinated with the redevelopment of Stansstad station. As a result, trains between Hergiswil and Engelberg will be replaced by buses on the following dates:
- Mon/Tue, 28/29 October 2024 to Thu/Fri, 7/8 November 2024, from 11.00 p.m. to 4.30 a.m.
On the following nights, replacement bus services will operate one hour earlier:
- Fri/Sat, 1/2 November to Sun/Mon, 3/4 November 2024, from 10.00 p.m. to 4.30 a.m.

Impact on the cantonal road Dallenwil–Wolfenschiessen
The construction works will partially affect road traffic on the cantonal road between Dallenwil and Wolfenschiessen. In coordination with the Nidwalden cantonal police, traffic control services will be deployed where necessary.
