Line closures Meiringen–Interlaken Ost and Meiringen–Innertkirchen Kraftwerk.

Rail traffic will be completely suspended on the Meiringen–Interlaken Ost line from 13 October to 21 December 2025 and on the Meiringen–Innertkirchen Kraftwerk line from 3 to 30 November 2025. The purpose of these closures is to carry out various construction measures to increase operational safety, modernise infrastructure and adapt to legal requirements such as the Disability Discrimination Act.
Two sections of track closed
The section between Meiringen and Interlaken Ost will be closed to train traffic from 13 October to 21 December. During this period, the PE LIX and R70 services between Meiringen and Interlaken Ost will be cancelled.
In addition, the line between Meiringen and Innertkirchen Kraftwerk will also be closed from 3 November to 30 November due to maintenance work. During this time, the R71 between Meiringen and Innertkirchen Kraftwerk will be cancelled.
Rail replacement buses will operate on the respective routes for the duration of the line closures. Please allow for longer journey times while the replacement buses are in operation. In order to ensure connections, please note that some departure times and departure points have changed. Customer service staff in Meiringen and Interlaken will provide you with information on site. The online timetable will be updated in good time.
Replacement buses
The following three bus lines are operating as rail replacement services:
Line EV1:
- Replacement bus Meiringen–Interlaken Ost
- Every hour, without stops between Meiringen and Interlaken Ost
- With connections to the PE LIX in Meiringen and to SBB/BLS/BOB trains in Interlaken Ost
Line EV2:
- Replacement bus Meiringen–Interlaken Ost
- Every 15 minutes, stopping at all stations in between
Line EV3 (3 November to 30 November):
- Replacement bus Meiringen–Innertkirchen Kraftwerk
- Generally every 30 minutes, except during gaps in the R71 service

Timetable change for the R71 Innertkirchen Kraftwerk–Meiringen
During the line closure from 13 October to 2 November and from 1 December to 21 December, the R71 will depart earlier from Innertkirchen Kraftwerk in the morning and evening to ensure connections in Meiringen.

Ticket machines out of service
Due to the internet and power outage during the line closure, the ticket machines between Brienzwiler and Ringgenberg will be out of service from 10 October until 15 November.
Please purchase your ticket online on the SBB website or via the SBB Mobile app. If you do not have a smartphone, please purchase your ticket after arriving at your destination station between Meiringen and Interlaken Ost and inform the bus driver.
Please note that tickets cannot be purchased on the replacement buses.
Tickets can also be purchased at the staffed ticket offices in Meiringen, Brienz and Interlaken Ost. The opening hours can be found on the SBB station website.

Bicycle transport
Due to limited space, bicycles cannot be taken on Zentralbahn rail replacement buses.
People with reduced mobility
At least one wheelchair-accessible bus is scheduled for each departure time. The online timetable should always be checked, especially with regard to access (as not all regional bus stops are accessible to persons with reduced mobility). Persons in wheelchairs are advised to register in advance.
