Matured in the mountain

Below the Giswilerstock mountain lies a former military tunnel. There, far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and the vagaries of the weather, is a gigantic cave cellar. Inside, up to 90,000 cheese wheels mature to perfection. The old caverns provide ideal conditions for the maturing process, which lasts up to twelve months. This is how Seiler's cheese specialities develop their typical taste and incomparable quality.

This cheese is excellent

The milk used to make it comes from local farms, located on hillsides and in valleys where agriculture is strictly controlled. Up to 80,000 kilograms of fresh milk are processed every day. This produces cheese that is appreciated far beyond Obwalden. In 2023, the creamy raclette was awarded gold at the first Raclette World Championship. In addition, it has won nine Swiss Cheese Awards, for example for semi-hard cheese and spice creations. The traditional company also demonstrated its innovative spirit with its “Dubai Raclette,” inspired by the hype surrounding Dubai chocolate.

Important information

Take the Zentralbahn railway to Giswil. Leave Giswil station and walk towards the village center. Follow the main road for a few minutes. The Seiler cheese shop is located in the center of the village and is easily accessible on foot.
