Hiking past the centre of Obwalden.

The Sachsler Höhenweg trail takes about 4 hours and starts in the pilgrimage village of Flüeli-Ranft. The trail starts off along the road leading out of the village. The hiking trail then turns off at the Churigen farm. The route continues across meadows, babbling ravines and through wildly romantic forests. After a while, the turn-off up to Glotersegg comes into view – the centre of Obwalden. It’s worth taking the short detour up to this picnic area. It offers a magnificent panorama of Lake Sarnen and the mountain range from Pilatus to the Brienzer Rothorn.

A suspension bridge for the intrepid.

From the Glotersegg, you return to the well signposted Sachsler Höhenweg trail. We recommend taking a breather at Musschwendli. You can sit on the benches and enjoy the view in comfort with a snack or a drink. The highlight of the hike, apart from the magnificent views, is the suspension bridge over the Sigetsbach. The path over this short bridge is a little wobbly.

The hike is nearly over: the final section runs via Obstocken and through the forest down to the Zollhaus. It’s a less than 30 minutes walk from the Zollhaus to Giswil or Ewil Maxon stations.

Important information.

Take a Zentralbahn train to Sachseln and continue by Postbus to Flüeli Ranft, Dorf.

The hike can also be done in the opposite direction. To do this, take the train to Giswil or Ewil Maxon stations.
