The Zentralbahn’s rolling stock.
In mid September 2009, Zentralbahn AG ordered four seven-car electric rack-and-adhesion train sets (ADLER) and six three-car electric rack-and-adhesion train sets (FINK) from Stadler Rail.
The first seven-car train will enter service on the Brünig route at the end of 2012. The six three-car push-pull trains will be used as expansion modules for the seven-car InterRegio trains, but can also be deployed on the valley lines.
We look forward to rolling out our total of ten new trains for you in autumn 2013.
In addition to creating operational advantages, these trains offer passengers a range of useful features:
- Platform-level entry for comfortable boarding and alighting (also with luggage)
- Panoramic windows for the best views
- Air conditioning for a pleasant climate on board
- Infotainment systems
- Electric seat reservation systems in the ADLER
- Power sockets in 1st and 2nd class
- Ideal on-board dining in the ADLER bistro
The SPATZ: rolling comfort.
S-Bahn rapid transit services in the lowland districts (Lucerne - Giswil and Lucerne - Stans) and the Haslital regional services are operated mostly by “SPATZ” narrow-gauge panorama units. Current rolling stock on the Lucerne-Engelberg route Construction of the Engelberg tunnel has enabled the Zentralbahn to deploy some more recent trains. In addition to the Brünig HGe class locomotive, four refitted former Brünig coaches and a so-called articulated driving unit (GSW) are now serving the Engelberg route. The GSW’s platform-level entry makes it easier for disabled passengers, families with strollers and travellers with wheeled suitcases to board and alight. They are also air conditioned and equipped with modern optical and acoustic customer information systems. All of the WCs in the train have been thoroughly modernized as well.
Current rolling stock on the Lucerne-Interlaken Ost route.
Until the new seven-car units are ready to traverse the Brünig Pass, comfortable InterRegio and GoldenPass trains will take you through the wonderful lakes-and-mountains scenery. In addition, GoldenPass trains feature a comfortable dining car and a panorama coach that affords a perfect all-round view.
